There will be just seven more short weeks of legislative session before we’re scheduled to adjourn on May 31st, and there are a number of key issues that are at least apparently currently on the table as we enter this final period. These issues include teacher pension changes (potentially both on the benefit side and on the employer contribution side), various changes to teacher certification protocols, a continued effort to implement Senate Bill 7, and, perhaps most importantly, the need to put together a responsible budget while resources are enormously scarce and the bill backlog remains far too long.
